Yamunotri Gangotri Do Dham consists of two holy shrines, Yamunotri and Gangotri, situated in the state of Uttarakhand.
Yamunotri temple is situated at an altitude of 3185 m. The actual source of the river is Champasar glaceir at an altitude of 4421m. This temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. Chardham yatra begins at Yamunotri . Temple is located 13 km from Hanuman Chatti and a 6Km walk from Janki Chatti . Main attraction at Yamunotri is its temple, holy thermal springs at Janki Chatti ,Saptarshi kund trek and Kharsali –the winter abode of Goddess Yamuna
Gangotri dham is located at an altitude of 3100m on Himalayan range in Uttarkashi district. Ganga Maa originated from Gaumukh which is a glaceir located 18 km away from Gangotri temple. Ganga river is the longest river in India and holds great spiritual and cultural significance for Hindus.
The pujaris and priests who performs rituals in temple belongs to Mukhwa village –The winter abode of Gangotri temple.
