Uttarakhand Honeymoon Packages: Where to Go, and When

Uttarakhand shows up on almost every "best honeymoon destinations in India" list, and for good reason — it's close enough to Delhi for an easy start, has snow, lakes, and quiet hill towns all within a few hours of each other, and doesn't require the longer travel or higher budget of somewhere like the Andamans or Kashmir. The harder question isn't whether to go, it's which Uttarakhand — a Nainital honeymoon and a Chopta honeymoon are almost different trips wearing the same state name.

The Classic Choice: Nainital

Naini Lake, boating at sunset, a walkable Mall Road — Nainital is the honeymoon default for a reason, and that's not a knock. It's easy to reach, well set up for couples (plenty of lake-view stays), and gives you a full romantic-hill-station experience without needing to plan much. The trade-off is crowds, especially April–June and around Diwali — if you want Nainital's lake-district charm without the peak-season rush, Bhimtal, 20km away, gives you a quieter version of the same thing: its own lake, island café, and boating, with far fewer people.

For Snow and a Bit of Adventure: Auli

If snow is part of your honeymoon picture, Auli is the strongest pick in the state — December to March for the snow itself, with skiing if either of you wants to try it, and views of Nanda Devi and Kamet that don't need much else added to feel special. It's also genuinely quiet compared to Nainital or Mussoorie, since it's more of a ski destination than a mass tourist stop. April–June works too, if you'd rather have green meadows and clear mountain views without the cold.

For Quiet Over Crowds: Kausani, Lansdowne, Dhanaulti

These three come up again and again in honeymoon recommendations, and they earn it by being the opposite of Nainital's energy:

Kausani sits on a ridge with a genuinely wide Himalayan panorama — Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Panchchuli all visible from one spot — and stays peaceful even in peak season because it's further from the standard circuit.

Lansdowne, a cantonment town, is deliberately low-key: oak and pine-lined walks, colonial-era churches, and a cap on how commercialized it can get because of its army-town status. Good for couples who specifically want to unwind rather than sightsee.

Dhanaulti, about 24km past Mussoorie, gets recommended as "what Mussoorie used to be before it got commercial" — same pleasant summer weather and winter snowfall, with a fraction of the crowd.

For Couples Who Want to Do Something: Chopta and Mussoorie

Not every honeymoon needs to be pure stillness. Chopta — nicknamed the mini Switzerland of India — works well for couples who'd rather hike together than sit on a hotel balcony; the Tungnath-Chandrashila trek is doable for reasonably fit travelers and ends at genuinely spectacular Himalayan views. Mussoorie remains the most complete option if you want a mix: walkable town, waterfalls, a cable car ride, good food, without needing a car for everything.

Best Time to Go

• March–June: pleasant weather across most hill stations, blooming landscapes, good for Nainital, Mussoorie, Kausani, Dhanaulti.

• July–September: monsoon — skip unless you're specifically after the Valley of Flowers in bloom, which is worth it for the right couple but requires more trip planning than a standard honeymoon.

• October–February: the snow window for Auli and Mussoorie, and generally the coziest time for hill-station honeymoons if you don't mind the cold.
