Kyarkoti Trek a hidden alpine trail trek located in the Harsil Valley of Uttarkashi Uttarakhand. The beautiful trek route located about 16 kilometres from Harsil. Kyarkoti trek is a low-altitude mountain trek with an altitude of 3480m.

There is a beautiful track, the beautiful river Bugyal Ghatiya flows out there and beautiful flowers keep attracting them. Harsil is a small town that is a tourist attraction. The trail is steep from the start, but the variety of scenery is rewarding. It is not recommended for beginners as it has a difficult slope, but the turns are great for experienced hikers and climbers.

The trek takes you along the Lamkhaga Pass route that connects to Sangla Valley, Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh. Walk along alpine forests of Cedar, pine and birch and cross little streams along the way. Marvel at the emerald green waters of the Kyarkoti lake.

Stunning views of Mt Srikanand and numerous unnamed peaks will fill your heart to the brim. And that’s not all, at the end of a tiring day, dig into our lip-smacking food and tuck yourself warm in our cosy tents.

To reach the base camp of the Kyarkoti Trek, you first need to travel to Harsil, a beautiful village in Uttarakhand. The nearest railway station is Dehradun, and the closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun. From Dehradun, you can take a taxi or bus to Harsil. The road journey takes about 8 to 9 hours and passes through beautiful mountain roads, rivers, and forests along the Bhagirathi River.

Day 1Dehradun to Harshil

Day 2Harsil to Lower Kyarkoti

  • Trek distance: 7 km
  • Trek Duration: 7 hours
  • Altitude: 11,000 ft

Highlight: 

  • There is a small temple worshipped by the locals, Lal Devta Mandir. The presiding deity is worshipped first and foremost by the villagers of Bagori.
  • The trail is fairly flat for the first km, then it’s another 3 km of steep climbing
  • The next 4km is relatively flat and comfortably takes you to your first campsite for the day. The campsite is under the natural canopy of alpine forests.

Day 3Lower Kyarkoti to Upper Kyarkoti

  • Trek distance: 8 km,
  • Trek Duration: 7 hours
  • Altitude: 12,800 ft

Highlight: 

  • Today will be the day you reach 12,800 feet to reach upper Kyarkoti.
  • After breakfast, we leave for the alpine meadow of Kyarkoti. It is an undulating trail of gradual ascent and descent along the beautiful meadows.
  • Here the tree line ends and you can see the big rocky Himalayan mountains covered with snow and the high peaks of the lamkhaga pass.
  • We will take a day hike towards the Lamkhaga pass which connects to Himachal Pradesh. We will only be able to go up to the Lamkhaga base camp fold. On the way, we come across a beautiful emerald green lake.

Day 4Upper Kyarkoti to Lower Kyarkoti and more

  • Trek distance: 8 km
  • Trek Duration: 7 hours
  • Altitude: 12,800 ft

Highlight: 

  • After morning breakfast you will start an easy descent 7 km above kyarkoti and we will be in the tree line again and will be on the same trail you walked earlier.
  • Again pitching camp and overnight stay here.

Day 5Lower Kyarkoti to Harsil and drive back to Dehradun

  • Drive Duration: 9-10 hours

Highlight:

  • This day, after breakfast in the early morning, you will start the trek towards the krutil
  • After reaching Harshil and after some food, we will drive towards Dehradun.
