Andaman Honeymoon: Itinerary, Cost and Best Time

Plan an Andaman honeymoon with a 5 night itinerary across Port Blair, Havelock and Neil, plus best months, cost drivers and ferry tips.

Five nights is enough for a relaxed Andaman honeymoon: one in Port Blair on arrival, two on Havelock, one on Neil Island, and a last night in Port Blair before your flight. The best months are roughly November to May, with December to February the busiest. This guide gives you the plan, the cost drivers and the timing, so you can decide what to book.

Best time for an Andaman honeymoon

The islands are open all year, but conditions change a lot between seasons. Rough seas are what cancel ferries and water activities, so match your dates to the sea, not just the rain.

Months

What to expect

Good for

November to February

Dry and sunny, calm seas, the clearest water. The busiest and most expensive period, tightest from Christmas to New Year.

First-time visitors who want the most reliable trip

March to May

Hotter and humid, but the sea is still calm. Fewer crowds, and diving and snorkelling are good.

Couples who prefer lower rates and quieter beaches

June to September

Monsoon. Heavy rain and rough seas, with ferry and water-activity cancellations.

Few honeymooners; plan an alternative

October

A transition month. The rains taper off but showers are still common.

Flexible couples who can adjust plans

Cyclones can form in the Bay of Bengal in the late-October to December window and occasionally disrupt travel, so choose flexible flight and ferry tickets where you can. If you are travelling in December, our guide to the best honeymoon places in India in December explains how the islands compare with the other options.

A 5 night, 6 day honeymoon itinerary

This plan uses Port Blair as the gateway, Havelock for the best beaches, and Neil Island for a slower pace.

Day

Where

Plan

1

Port Blair

Arrive, check in and rest. Visit the Cellular Jail and its evening light and sound show, or Corbyn's Cove Beach.

2

Port Blair to Havelock

Take a morning ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep). Settle in and watch the sunset at Radhanagar Beach.

3

Havelock

Take a boat to Elephant Beach for snorkelling or a sea walk. Add a beginner scuba session if you want one. Keep the evening free.

4

Havelock to Neil

Spend the morning at Kalapathar Beach, then take the ferry to Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). See Bharatpur Beach and Laxmanpur Beach at sunset.

5

Neil to Port Blair

Visit the Natural Bridge at low tide, then ferry back to Port Blair. Add Ross Island or North Bay if time allows.

6

Port Blair

Check out and fly home.

You can swap this for three nights on Havelock and skip Neil Island, which gives you more beach time and fewer ferry transfers. Tide timings decide when the Natural Bridge is visible, so check them for your dates, and check the current show timings for the Cellular Jail before you plan day 1.

We offer set versions of this trip on our Andaman honeymoon packages page, and you can compare the islands with other destinations in Andaman vs Goa vs Kerala.

Where to stay: Port Blair, Havelock and Neil

Each island suits a different part of the honeymoon, so most couples split their nights rather than staying in one place.

  • Port Blair: the gateway, with the airport, ferry jetties, the Cellular Jail and the widest choice of hotels. It is a busy town, so use it for the first and last night rather than the main stay.

  • Havelock (Swaraj Dweep): the best beaches and the most resorts, from simple cottages to private-pool villas. Resorts close to Radhanagar Beach are quiet and remote. Those nearer the jetty are closer to restaurants and the ferry.

  • Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep): smaller, slower and less developed. Stays are simpler and the choice is narrower, which suits one or two nights of doing very little.

Beach-facing rooms on Havelock sell out first in peak season. If you want a particular resort for a particular date, secure it early, and ask whether the price includes breakfast and transfers.

We can build the stay around your budget and dates on our Andaman honeymoon packages page, which lists the current options.

What an Andaman honeymoon costs

There is no single honest average for an Andaman honeymoon, because the price swings with season, flights and stay category. It is more useful to know what drives the total, so you can compare quotes fairly.

Cost component

What changes the price

How to keep it down

Flights to Port Blair

Your departure city and the season; fares rise sharply around Christmas and New Year

Book early, and avoid the peak week if your dates are flexible

Inter-island ferries

The operator and class; fast private ferries cost more than government ferries

Book ahead, and cut the number of island changes

Hotels and resorts

The island, the room category and the distance from the beach

Split nights between categories, and spend most on the Havelock nights

Meals

Breakfast only versus half board

Eat at local restaurants on Port Blair and Neil nights

Activities

Scuba, sea walks, snorkelling trips and boat rides are usually extra

Choose two or three you really want rather than all of them

Transfers

Private cars versus shared transport

Share transport on short hops

Package quotes are the biggest source of confusion. Prices can be quoted per person or per couple, and with or without flights, so check the basis before you compare two offers. Ask exactly what is included: transfers, ferries, activities, meals and entry fees.

For current listed prices and what each package includes, see our Andaman honeymoon packages.

Romantic experiences worth paying for

You do not need to do everything. These are the ones couples most often remember:

  • Sunset at Radhanagar Beach (Havelock): free, and the single best evening of the trip for most couples.

  • A beach dinner arranged by your resort: a table on the sand with lighting, usually booked a day ahead and charged separately.

  • Snorkelling or a sea walk at Elephant Beach: an easy way to see the reef without diving experience.

  • A beginner scuba session: run by certified dive centres on Havelock and Neil. You need to be reasonably fit and answer a health questionnaire, and you should not fly for about a day afterwards.

  • Sunset at Laxmanpur Beach (Neil Island): quieter than Radhanagar and good for slow evenings.

  • Night kayaking in the mangroves (Havelock): offered when conditions allow, so ask whether it is running on your dates.

Book activities through the resort or a licensed operator, check the safety briefing and equipment, and keep a flexible day in case weather cancels a boat trip.

Getting between the islands

By air. You fly into Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair. Direct flights run from several major cities, but routes and schedules change, so check current options for your departure city before you plan dates.

By ferry. Inter-island travel is by sea. Private operators such as Makruzz, Green Ocean, Nautika and ITT Majestic run fast ferries between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil, and government ferries run on the same routes at a slower pace. The fast private ferries take roughly 90 minutes between Port Blair and Havelock; government ferries take longer. Schedules and seat availability change, so confirm the current timetable with the operator or your travel planner.

Two habits save trouble. Carry photo ID for each traveller, because ferry operators ask for it. And never schedule a flight on the same day as a ferry, because weather can delay or cancel sailings. Staying your last night in Port Blair, as in the itinerary above, protects your flight home.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need for an Andaman honeymoon?

Five nights and six days is a comfortable plan that covers Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island. Four nights works if you skip Neil. Fewer than four feels rushed once ferry transfers are counted.

What is the best month for an Andaman honeymoon?

November to February has the calmest seas and clearest water, but it is also the busiest and most expensive time. March to May is hotter but quieter, with calm seas and lower rates.

Do Indian couples need a permit for the Andaman Islands?

Indian citizens do not need a permit for the main tourist islands, including Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. Restricted areas such as the Nicobar Islands need special permission. Carry photo ID, and check the rules for your nationality if you are not an Indian citizen.

Is Andaman good for couples who do not dive?

Yes. Beaches, sunsets, snorkelling, sea walks and boat trips need no diving experience, and Radhanagar Beach alone is worth the trip.

Should we book a package or plan it ourselves?

A package removes the hardest part, which is matching flights, ferries and rooms on the right dates, especially in peak season. Planning it yourself gives more control if you are happy to manage the ferries and bookings.
