Nestled at an altitude of 3,583 metres (11,755 ft) in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, Kedarnath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by the snow-covered Garhwal Himalayas and located near the source of the Mandakini River, the temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and forms an important part of both the Char Dham Yatra and the Panch Kedar pilgrimage.
The yatra to Kedarnath can be completed by the traditional 16 km trek from Gaurikund, or by helicopter services from Phata, Sersi, and Guptkashi. For pilgrims who need assistance, palki (palanquin) and pitthu services are also available. The temple remains open for only six months each year, typically from May to November, before closing for winter due to heavy snowfall.
